I had the chance to drive out to the St. George Regional Airport last night.  My daughter flew in from Salt Lake City to surprise me for Mother’s Day and I drove her to the airport for a return flight home.  The airport is about 10 miles outside of St. George with easy access from Interstate 15 or River Road.  The actual address is 4550 South Airport Parkway.

Several major airlines fly in and out of St. George, including United, American, Delta and Southwest Airlines.  You can fly directly to Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City from the St. George Regional Airport.  There are plans to expand to other destinations and to allow other airlines to fly out of St. George, if the market dictates a need for it.   You can easily rent a car at the airport.  I saw signs for most of the major car rental companies:  Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Alamo.

The parking lot for the airport is extremely close to the building with several handicap parking stalls.  The cost to park is only $5 per day and the first hour of parking is free.  This was nice because I didn't have to pay anything and I was able to walk my daughter into the airport, watch her go through security and wave to her as she boarded an airplane in one of the two gates in the airport.  The building is modern with clean facilities.  You can take the stairs or an elevator up to an observation area with nice couches and a waiting area for you to see planes arrive and take off.

Here are some fun facts about the St. George Airport:

  •          It was built on 1,203 acres
  •          The runway is 1.8 miles long
  •          The runway is completely expandable to meet the future needs of the area
  •          The airport is a modern 35,000 sq. ft. terminal building that is expandable too
  •          The total cost of the airport was $159 million, with no property, income or sales tax used to fund the project

If you do not want to drive 120 miles to Las Vegas to fly out of McCarran International Airport, the St. George Regional Airport is certainly a great alternative and one that I hope to be using in the future.

Live life to the fullest with no regrets!
